Brown calls Houston Knicks' best player

Incoming New York Knicks Coach Larry Brown plans to have chronically sore-kneed shooting guard Allan Houston ready to go for training camp next week.

Brown said he anticipated working again with Stephon Marbury.

Asked to give his impression of what went wrong for the Knicks last season, Brown brought up the knee injury that has kept Houston sidelined for most of two seasons.

"They started out pretty darn good, but when you lose an Allan Houston, you know, your best player, it's pretty difficult to overcome that," Brown said.

Spurs sign ex-Tar Heel

SAN ANTONIO -- The San Antonio Spurs signed five free agents, including former North Carolina forward Jawad Williams, a forward who averaged 13.1 points in helping the Tar Heels win the national title last season.

The Spurs also signed guards Kyle Bailey and Stephen Graham, and forwards Sharrod Ford and Melvin Sanders.
